Originally recorded as a podcast by Matt & Mel at The Bureau Asia, this video is about the time Matt got his #tickettoride to Vũng Tàu, a beachside town approximately 100km southeast of Hồ Chí Minh City, which is often left off the itineraries of international travellers and sometimes dismissed by expats and foreigners as a seedy getaway for men wanting to escape the big city to get up to some mischief.
But as Matt and Mel discuss, Vũng Tàu deserves more respect, it’s popular among domestic tourists, it has a fascinating history that includes foreign European invaders, Malay pirates and Russian oilers, there’s an amazing food scene and to top it all off, their fisherfolk worship whales!
01:55-08:03 The basics about Vũng Tàu (getting there, lifestyle, & sights)
22:41-26:58 Cool discoveries (an ocean view cafe, a pool by the beach & a mega Club Sandwich)
27:02-38:48 Whale worshipping & the small fishing village of Phước Hải
