Drop Anchor At D7’s Latest Sports Bar & Gastro Pub

Saigon’s District 7 has just got itself a new venue for lovers of wine, craft beer, cocktails, gastro pub style meals and sport.

Anchor Wine Boutique & Gastro Pub is located beneath the newly-opened Sabina Hotel in Phu My Hung, just a short stroll from the Skygarden apartment complex.

The spacious interior caters for up to 100 people offering both Vietnamese and Western dishes and an extensive selection of fine wines and spirits, craft (and regular) beers, and cocktails in an atmosphere that has quite the after-match social club feel.

The menu includes appetisers the likes of fried camembert with aioli sauce (VND189,000), salami bruschetta (VND119,000) and the curious sounding Russian smoked goose wings for VND189,000.

Tex-Mex food goes well with sport and beer any time of the day or week, so on Anchor’s menu there are eight Mexican-inspired dishes to get stuck into while debating which team is the greatest of all time.

There are cheese, beef, chicken and prawn quesadillas ranging in price from VND89,000 to VND109,000, including beef (VND89,000) and chicken (VND79,000) tacos.

For the Western folk looking for comfort food favourites, Anchor scores full points with its US-grown rib eye steaks and Australian-grown striploins, both VND285,000.

Other steak winners, including the T-bone served with mashed potato, baked vegetables and gravy, are VND590,000.

And there are beef and veal sausage plates (VND249,000) and lamb shanks (VND329,000) that make more than handy substitutes for the main game.

The French menu includes cold cuts (VND299,000) and cheese plates (VND390,000) and a foie gras terrine (VND299,000) perfect for those much-needed team bonding sessions when the chips are down heading into the last.

While the Vietnamese options include Hai Phong-style noodles with chilli, lemongrass and clams; the ubiquitous bo luc lac, and BBQ pork ribs with kimchi sauce and steamed rice (all VND89,000).

There’s also a daily set lunch combo (VND169,000) from 11am to 2pm with items like grilled mackerel, chicken and beef, paired with salads and soups, including a choice of dessert.

But it’s the bar that probably kicks the most goals with one of the most extensive drinks menus in the game featuring the best locally-brewed craft beers in Vietnam, such as Heart of Darkness, East West Brewing Co. and Pasteur Street Brewing Co. who are all in a league of their own.

The young and enthusiastic bar staff can mix up an impressive range of classic cocktails, too, if that nagging voice in your head demands something a little stronger to get you through till stumps.

Open 10am to 2am daily
