The press conference for the upcoming Techcombank Ho Chi Minh City International Marathon was held at the Grand Hotel in central Ho Chi Minh City on Nov.1. Speaking to a packed house, Mr Bang Trinh, the CFO of Techcombank, said that the day represented “an intersection of sports, community and social impact.”

Techcombank is the official title sponsor of the marathon, which is being held for just the second time. Last year was the event’s inaugural year. With Techcombank’s sponsorship, in collaboration with the event’s organiser, Sunrise Events Vietnam, Mr Trinh said that Techcombank is extremely proud and excited of its involvement in the marathon: “It’s a movement that promotes positive and active lifestyles across all age groups. A movement that requires discipline, commitment and focus and often leads to a personal transformation.”
He went on to say that by supporting events like the marathon and the IRONMAN 70.3 Vietnam in Danang, Techcombank is already seeing changes within its own organisation as staff, all the way up to management, including himself, have embraced the challenges that come with participating in endurance sports.

“They say that champions are made when no one is watching,” said Mr Trinh, “what we are witnessing in Vietnam is a community of future champions that are being made through running and endurance sports.
“This marathon on Dec.2 is an opportunity for these champions to come together and join one another as they experience this wonderful city Ho Chi Minh in a different setting and to really embrace what it means to be Greater Together, the theme of this year’s event.”
Meanwhile, Mr Onslo Carrington, general manager of business development for Sunrise Events Vietnam, recognised the role of the various local governmental departments in helping his company bring a world class marathon to Ho Chi Minh City.
“In conjunction with our strategic partners at Techcombank, these organisations have demonstrated the vision that is required to bring a marathon to Ho Chi Minh City of an international level,” he said.
Mr Carrington, who has spent considerable time in cities around the world that host iconic marathons, says that he can feel “the same vibrance humming in the streets of Ho Chi Minh City.”
“It would not be possible to produce a marathon of this scale and growth without all the various partners involved in the community reflected in this room today,” he continued. “It’s a testament to the spirit and energy of this great city that we all come together to produce a marathon of this stature along its streets and boulevards.”
In the future, according to Mr Carrington, Sunrise Events Vietnam with its partners hope to grow the event into one of the largest marathons in Asia.
“This is a massive undertaking that reflects not days or weeks but months of planning and consideration,” he explained, “as well as years of extensive experience to collaborate and put forth a successful and enriching experience.
“This intersection in sports, culture, enterprise and tourism is what makes this city and community great, and it shines out onto the local and international stages.”
