Recently-opened lounge bar Alley50 in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 1 has just hosted The M Finest Cut Final to determine Vietnam’s best bartender for 2018.
Sponsored by The Macallan, the event saw 10 of Vietnam’s best bartenders face off under the tight scrutiny of five judges — including chef Luke Nguyen — and an equally discerning packed house eager to see what drinks the finalists would come up with using the major sponsor’s product.

In the end it was Nguyen Toan My representing Firkin Bar who took out the title with his “Plum & Oak” cocktail. His creation stood out from the rest with its plum red hue, fluffy white top layer garnished with dehydrated lemon and thyme. Its taste received the tick of approval, too.
The drink definitely has an alluring appeal and must have the crew at Firkin — a bar noted for its fine array of top-end whiskies — excited at the prospect of a new drink at their disposal promising to draw in guests to the famed bar. The potential for it to attract those less-accustomed to drinking whisky will be something to watch.
